Loughton Amateur Dramatic Society, known as LADS, was formed on 6th
January 1924. Our founders wished to establish a "village society" with
the aim of presenting plays with “genuine dramatic worth”. Now in
our 100th season LADS is still going strong, and although
Loughton can no longer truly be described as a “village”, one thing has
remained constant - that original aspiration of “genuine dramatic
worth”.
LADS has over 50 members, aged from 18 to 80. We perform and rehearse at
Lopping Hall, conveniently situated in Loughton High Road, just a few
minutes walk from Loughton tube station. Click
here for a map of Lopping Hall and the immediate vicinity.
We
produce four plays a year, ranging from classics by Shakespeare, Shaw
and Arthur Miller through favourites such as Hobson’s Choice, See How
They Run and An Inspector Calls to the latest contemporary drama. LADS
are proud of a reputation for presenting plays fresh onto the amateur
circuit. We were one of the first amateur companies to produce "The
Madness of George III", "Amy’s View", "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" and
"Proof. Our production of "The Stepmother" was probably the first in
this country by any company – amateur or professional. We are
consistently nominated for Best Play in the NODA London regional awards,
in 2013 winning the award for our production of "My Boy Jack", and in
2018 for "Breaking the Code". In 2018, Dean Bartholomew won Best Actor
for his portrayal of Alan Turning in "Breaking the Code", and LADS won
the District 6 Flame Award for the production of “A Streetcar Named
Desire”.
We are always looking for new members to join the society whether they
want to tread the boards or to get involved with one of the many crew
roles that are vital in producing each production. If you have a skill
and some time to give then please do inquire and get involved. If you
would like more information about joining or being put on our mailing
list please click the membership tab at the top of this page.
